Note: with the rise of shrink-wrapped blogging, I, too, have jumped onto the bandwagon. Hence, the fact that this is the first time in more than 2 years that I've updated this page isn't too surprising.

Is time travel possible? How to do it?

  • 16/6/99: Former rocker Screaming Lord Sutch found dead. The leader of Britain's Official Monster Raving Loony party, former rock singer Screaming Lord Sutch, was found dead Wednesday, the BBC reported. The BBC quoted a friend as saying that Sutch, leader of the most colourful and durable of Britain's political fringe groups, had been found dead at his home in northwest London. The BBC said Sutch, 58, had apparently committed suicide. A spokesman for Prime Minister Tony Blair said: ``Screaming Lord Sutch will be much missed. For many years he made a unique contribution to British politics.'' Sutch, whose party campaigned under the slogan ``Vote for Insanity, You Know It Makes Sense,'' was known in British politics for his colorful clothing and curious policies. The Loony party platform in Britain's last general election in 1997 included the provision of heated lavatory seats for pensioners and extending the Channel Tunnel to Guernsey and Switzerland to give Britain tax-haven status. Sutch stood unsuccessfully for Parliament more than 40 times in a career that dated back to the 1960s, but he recently had predicted his party was headed for extinction. Before he went into fringe politics, Sutch ran a rock band called the Savages, in which stars such as Noel Redding of the Jimi Hendrix Experience, Keith Moon of The Who and guitar legend Jeff Beck played early in their careers. Sutch once said he had originally set up his party for people who didn't want to vote, so he would consider himself the election winner if more people stayed home than went to the polls. ``If more people don't vote, I will claim victory,'' said Sutch, who once bet five pounds ($8) that he would become prime minister at odds of 15 million to one.
  • The new cellphone virus is a hoax, probably [in 2002 yes, but in 2004 there's at least 2 real mobile virus up and about]
  • JE (1999 Perak, NS) and coxsackie (1997 Sarawak) NOT responsible for deaths. Instead of JE, it should be called "Nipah Virus", or "Hendra-like virus". And the killer virus in Sarawak is still unidentified. Consider this: people given full courses of the vaccine for JE also died! Source: Section 2, The Star, 24/5/99.

Miscellaneous

In a survey conducted by Guitar Magazine (UK), Jimi Hendrix topped the list, followed by Eric Clapton and Jimmy Page. The original technoshredder, Eddie Van Halen only managed 8th placing, while Keith Richards placed a lowly 26th. Noel Gallagher earned the dubious honour of being named most overrated guitarist this century. Kurt Cobain finished 7th, which showed that the list is more about songwriting ability and general popularity than technical wizardry. Heck, even I can play the lead guitar better than Kurt anytime!

In the same poll, Nevermind (by Nirvana) was voted best album of the century, followed by Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon and Hendrix's Electric Ladyland.

John Entwistle (The Who) was named best bassist in history, ahead of Paul McCartney and John Paul Jones (Led Zeppelin).
