SEREMBAN: Two Lamborghini Diablos were among 40 luxury cars seized by the state Customs and Excise Department in an operation against those who evade import duties. Department director Ismail Ibrahim said the two cars, worth RM1mil each, were confiscated last week at a secluded housing estate in Mantin near here. Without divulging the identity of the owner, Ismail said this was the first time the department had seized such luxury cars. Ismail said the other vehicles included Honda, BMW and Mercedes.

http://www.nstpi.com.my/z/Current_News/NST/Thursday/Frontpage/20000413013922 13/4/2000 By Shareem Amry and Elizabeth John KUALA LUMPUR, Wed. - If several official State Government websites are to be believed, Tan Sri Sanusi Junid is still the Kedah Menteri Besar, the Kuala Lumpur International Airport in Sepang has not been completed yet and the Second Link to Singapore does not exist. Similarly, the Commonwealth Games which took place here in 1998 is listed as an upcoming event and the Light Rail Transit system now traversing the capital city is a "proposed" project. The listing of such hilariously outdated information came to light last Monday when the Kedah State Assembly sitting was informed that the State official website was woefully out of date. For the record, Sanusi was succeeded by Datuk Seri Syed Razak Syed Zain, who was sworn in on Dec 11, 1999. Other inaccurate information on the websites include a section which says Pelangi Air runs daily return flights from Alor Star to Kota Baru. A check with the airline, however, revealed that it had stopped servicing that route in October last year. A check by the New Straits Times showed that most of the other offical State Government websites are also in need of updating. Mistakes included Pahang's website, which lists Tan Sri Khalil Yaakob as its Menteri Besar, even though he was succeeded by Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob on May 25 1999. Khalil is now the Information Minister. Negri Sembilan's website includes a comprehensive calendar of events for "Visit Negri Sembilan Year" - held in 1999. "With the Commonwealth Games 1998 approaching and Visit Negri Sembilan Year 1999 events in line, (this website) helps you to bring your business to greater heights by promoting your services and products to potential customers around the world," it says. Meanwhile, Perak's website contains a page which lists "proposed trade & investments missions for 1996", although its calendar of events under its "current events" section had been updated as recently as yesterday. Like Perak, most official State websites show signs of having been updated recently, but not thoroughly, resulting in a mix of both old and new information. Johor's website, for example, carries a daily weather report for Johor Baru, yet it only has statistics of tourist arrivals from Singapore recorded in 1992. The website also lists the Second Link to Singapore as a "proposed" project, even though the link was officially opened on April 18, 1998. Although Selangor's official website carries its Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Abu Hassan Omar's weekly schedule, it also lists some of the most glaringly outdated information. "The new Kuala Lumpur International Airport in Sepang is intensively under construction," it says, although the airport was officially opened in 1998. Westport in Pulau Indah and the LRT system are also listed as proposed projects, although both have been in operation for some time. Many of the statistics on the State websites, such as Gross Domestic Product, employment and labour force participation figures, are outdated, with some dating back as far as 1995. Grammatical howlers were also sprinkled throughout the text of many of the websites, with such gems as "quality of live" which can be found in the website for the Terengganu State Government. The most updated websites were those for Sabah, Sarawak and Penang, the first two of which had been amended as recently as this month. Sabah's website even carries a warning for a computer virus dubbed "South Park", while Penang's website carries a promise that residents will soon be able to file their complaints and check their outstanding parking tickets and compound notices online. E-mail comment by Pengarah Unit Kemajuan IT: 14/4/2000 Tan Sri/Datuk/Tuan/Puan "The most updated websites were those for Sabah, Sarawak and Penang, the first two of which had been amended as recently as this month."
