Overview of Sabah.Net

Sabah.Net is a platform-independent information superhighway that enables the people of Sabah to communicate with each other, the Government and the world wherever they are and whenever they want to. It is among some of the advanced infrastructure facilities identified as necessary to transform the state's economy to one that is knowledge-driven, and one that will ensure the attainment of the objectives of vision 2020.

With the Electronic Government system implemented, state government departments have direct network access to computer servers in Sabah.Net data centre residing in K.K.I.P Communications Sdn. Bhd. office, which provide services such as web pages, electronic mail, database applications and other services.

Extending departmental networks to reach regions of remote users or connecting hundreds of all individual sites is too expensive, complex and difficult. To overcome this situation, modem dial-up access services is also implemented in Sabah.Net whereby users with a computer, modem and a telephone line will be able to dial into the network and enjoy similar services to direct network access. Chapter 2 of this handbook will guide you through the necessary configurations to enable you to access Sabah.Net via modem dial-up.
