About AutoAdmin
Netscape
AutoAdmin allows system administrators to remotely configure and centrally
manage Netscape Communicator within an enterprise network. When combined
with Netscape Mission Control, Netscape AutoAdmin allows system administrators
to dynamically set and update Communicator preferences such as email, network,
and security feature settings.
Note
AutoAdmin is only available with Communicator Professional Edition and
is designed for use by system administrators. As a Communicator user, there
is nothing you need to do to enable it.
AutoAdmin
also provides centralized management of the download, installation, and
upgrade of software components, including plug-ins.
Netscape
AutoAdmin:
-
reduces deployment costs and
simplifies Communicator administration
-
allows central configuration
of Communicator client preferences
-
dynamically assigns new preferences
-
downloads, installs, and upgrades
Netscape Communicator components and plug-ins automatically
-
restricts downloadable components
to those authorized by the administrator
AutoAdmin
includes the following features:
-
AutoConfig: lets administrators
centrally manage client preferences such as default home page, mail server
address, and proxy settings. AutoConfig provides automatic scheduled updating
of client preferences and user interface.
-
AutoUpdate: lets administrators
centrally update any Communicator components. AutoUpdate enables Communicator
desktops to be securely "locked," so that only components authorized and
signed by the administrator can be downloaded and installed. AutoUpdate
allows automatic secure scheduled distribution (download and installation)
of Communicator components and plug-ins.
To use
AutoAdmin, you must have Netscape Mission Control, which provides an easy-to-use
collection of tools that allow an administrator to customize, distribute,
install, and administer Netscape Communicator Standard and Professional
Editions. When combined with Netscape Communicator, Netscape Mission Control
reduces the total cost of ownership by allowing a system administrator
to centrally manage distribution, installation, and updates throughout
an enterprise network.
